College Prep
Instructor: Leny Valerio- Buford

1. What do you like the most about the class? I really like Leny. And I just like the class in general because the class environment is really easy- going. The more comfortable the class, the better we can learn.

2. What do you like the least about the class? The assignements we do in class are almost always individual. I think it would be better if we had some small group work to make the class more interactive.

3. What was your favorite thing you did? I liked writing my resume in class. It made me feel like I was preparing for college.

4. What was one thing you really learned from this? There was more than one thing, but something I really learned was the order of things colleges look for. I used to think SAT scores were the very first thing colleges looked at, but it was actually the cummulative G.P.A.

5. What would you say to any incoming students to prepare them for this class? Just come to class everyday with an open mind and determinatin to learn, because you'd be surprised at how much you really learn in this class each day. Take advantage of everything you hear Leny say beacuse you're gonna have to use it in the future.

( College Prep 4th Period)

(University of Washington: The campus where our summer school classes took place)

Students stimulate a Senior student's year where focus is on applying and selecting a college or university after graduation. Students prepare academic resumes so that discussion could focus on the student's need to be involved in many school and community activities as well as show time management skills via balancing academic, employment, extracurricular and household duties. Students also conduct a college search by comparing data such as college entrance criteria, costs, graduation requirements, and financial aid packages. They write admission offices for literature and prepare for college application essays. Students write on "generic topics" such as career goals and reasons for pursuing college education as well as prepare for the specific essay topics of the college they plan to attend.

1. What do you like the most about the class? I really liked using the really big college books to pick out colleges that I might want to go to, getting their addresses, and writing them letters of interest.

2. What do you like the least about the class? I didn't really enjoy having to write my career goal essay without any preparation time. What I want to do in the future is a really big thing to just write a whole paper about without any warning.

3. What was your favorite thing you did? My favorite thing was learning how colleges actually rate/rank you. Everyone tells you that SAT scores are the first thing they look at, but really it's your cumulative G.P.A.

4. What was one thing you really learned from this? One thing I didn't know was that if you want to go to school in Washington and you live in Washington, it's a lot cheaper than if you live in a different state.

5. What would you say to any incoming students to prepare them for this class? I would tell incoming students to be ready and listen closely.
