Geological Hazards Study sECTION

Instructor: Mary- Beth Chaversia

Lecturer: Tony Irving

This course will introduce students to the Earths geological activity. With this background, they will be able to understand and critically evaluate geological hazards. We will begin each class with a review of the days lecture. Students will then do hands- on activities to explore volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and landslides. Hands- on activities will include: working with volcanic hazard maps, examining volcanic rock samples, exploring Web databases of global volcanic eruptions, and exercises mapping the epicenter of earthquakes. Students will also participate in group discussions involving potential ways to reduce the risk of geological hazards.

Student Feedback:

We have interviewed students on their thoughts of the class. The questions we asked were-

- What do you like the most about the class?
- What do you like the least about the class?
- What was your favorite thing you did?
-What was one thing you really learned?
-What would you say to any incoming students to prepare them for this class?
