Latin:

Teacher: Shawn Allen

Objective: This course aims to help students build a college- level English vocabulary through the study of Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes used in the English words. By looking closely at the influence of Latin on English words, students will compile a working vocabulary and will master a core of Latin roots that will provide them with the means to decipher many of the college- level words they encounter outside of this course. In addition, students will learn how words are formed in English and gain a basic understanding of the development of the language.

1. Nicole, Hale 2005:
A-It's really worth the time and effort because you learn so much, and it was right before lunch.
B-Sometimes there was a little too much history for me.
C-Figuring out those stories mixed with Latin
D-How to use Latin stems, prefixes and suffixes, and how to break down and understand words and their meanings.
E-If you need help with vocabulary, you should take this class. But be ready because it's not that easy. Make sure you pay attention and ask questions.

A- The interesting things I learn each day.
B- The time consuming quizzes
C- The phrase of the Day and making up mean names to call people in Latin.
D- The history of the English language and the Romans.
E- Study and have fun. Also take a lot of notes.

3. Preetika, Franklin 2004
A- The way Shawn Allen teaches us. It's not irksome or fatiguing. Instead its facil and exciting. I learned a lot these past couple of weeks.
B- There isn't anything not to like.
C- Learning cultural backgroung and how Latin gained its roots.
D- Root variation and prefixes. This could have helped me on the SAT.
E. Dont worry it's easy. Just pay attention and you wil ace this class.
