1. What is your favorite quote? What is your interpretation for this quote?

"Be the Change you want to see" Mathatma Ghandi
It means to me that everyone has the power to create positive change. Live your life positively and like you know in the bottom of your heart that you can achieve your dreams, no matter what difficulties you face!

2. What college, you are attending or have attended? What is best or worst about the college?

The University of Washington is the college I attended. It was difficult because the level of competition is high and there was not much opportunity to talk with teachers and I often felt isolated as the only person of color in many of my upper level English courses. The best part was that I met a great mentor, made a few good friends and connected up with Upward Bound! Well, the rest is history.

3. What is your plan in the next 5 or 10 years from now?

Continue to teach and research curriculum. Travel as time and money permits and spend lots of time having fun with my grand kids, nieces and nephews.

4. What do you think of Upward Bound students?

Upward Bound students are young, young, young versions of myself. I'm a Franklin and Cleveland alumni! They also have lots of great potential and just need a hand up before they fly off into the great academic beyond!

5. If you got all the power in the whole world, what would you change about Upward Bound? Alternatively, if not. Then what would you change about the United State as a resident.

I would get two or three big computer tech vans that we could use for classes at each school. It would have all the latest and greatest technology and students could make web pages, print, scan, take photos and email! We would also hold UB classes on the web for credit and use the van to travel to fun places for senior trip!

I would also buy a UB Building and we couldhave a UB school where we have our own academic program all year round. We'd have the most hot shot students in the state and each one would have their own lap top!

Then we would get an even bigger hanging sign than "Gear up" and hang it down the side of Meany Hall!
