1. What is your favorite quote? What is your interpretation for this quote?

My father always says, "Patience, tolerance, and hardships are the ways of
life." It sounds rather corny, but the quote does make sense. Often, people are
too eager to accomplish their long term goals too quickly. Rather than giving
up, its important to realize that everyone has setbacks. Be persistent,
eventually you will accomplish what you want to do.

2. What college, you are attending or have attended? What is best or worst about the college?

I am currently attending the University of Washington school of Medicine.
As an undergraduate, I also attended the University of Washington. The best
thing about college is all the freedom you have. You can take classes that you
want to take, and study when you want. The worst part about college is the
academic competition. Some students become too aggressive with their peers,
trying to compete with them for grades. Its best to find a network of friends
who are supportive of you, and want to help you, rather than "friends" who want

to do better than you.

3. What is your plan in the next 5 or 10 years from now?

In five years, I hope to be done with medical school! It is my desire to
work with under-served communities in urban areas. Eventually, I would like to
return to teaching in the health sciences.

4. What do you think of Upward Bound students?

Upward Bound students are absolutely amazing. When I was in high
school, I was interested in college, but did not pursue it as UB students. I
like how goal oriented UB students are. Its truly a gift to work with highly
diverse, talented, young people. I have had a blast this summer. Definitely,
this has been one of my most rewarding teaching experiences!

5. If you got all the power in the whole world, what would you change about Upward Bound? Alternatively, if not. Then what would you change about the United State as a resident.

I would like Upward Bound to be extended throughout the entire academic
year. It would be cool to have our own high school! Of course, this won't
happen. Still, the skills UB students gain in the summer will be an asset in
college.
My hope is that as students leave Upward Bound, they will think about ways
they can get more involved in the community. Its important to contribute to your
community.
