What does Upward Bound mean to you? How has it changed you overall?
Upward Bound is a good way to cap my 43-year career in education (and just a few more years to go). It is really meaningful that this program has been instrumental in helping so many kids complete their baccalaureate degrees. Through the years, the staff and I decided to up the ante and groom more students to pursue graduate school. We now have so many students with MA/MS degrees, a few in professional fields, such as law and medicine, and a couple doing their PhD's in highly competitive fields. How cool is that?

What influenced/inspired you to become a teacher?
I come from a family of teachers who are passionate about our profession. Before he died, my father was a well-loved high school English teacher in our small town in the Philippines. Three of my siblings and I became teachers as a result of his influence.
Back What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
Gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, arts and crafts, painting. I read a lot...often juggling 3 books all at once, one by my bedstand, another in the car, one in my school bag. The worst thing that can happen to me is to be stranded somewhere without a book to read...

What is your favorite color? Why?
Red - it is so alive, so dynamic...

What is one weird fact about you that we don't know right off the bat?
Aging doesn't bother me...I don't feel a need to cling to youth and its promises.
