What does Upward Bound mean to you? How has it changed you overall?
I am delighted to have this opportunity to contribute to a program that helps level the playing field. My brother was in the first class of Head Start, so I have a similar background to many Upward Bound students. I hope that my academic success will inspire some of these students.

Teaching Upward Bound students has made me a better teacher. Their energy, enthusiasm, and creativity inspire me to be more creative in my approach to teaching.

What influenced/inspired you to become a teacher?
I have always received tremendous satisfaction from helping others learn and reach their true potential. In 7th grade I had the opportunity to tutor my classmates in math. Before teaching courses in classics, I tutored college students in Spanish. I have been teaching courses in the language, literature, and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome since 1999. No other job I have had so far has brought me this much satisfaction and enjoyment.

What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
I ride my bicycle almost every day for pleasure, exercise, and as my primary means of transportation.  I also enjoy rollerblading, reading, and traveling.

What is your favorite color? Why?

I love red because it is vibrant, exciting, and fun.

What is one weird fact about you that we don't know right off the bat?
My B.A. is in economics. After many years in the business world, I returned to school in order to study classics at the graduate level.
