I wanted to be an archaeologist like I am now.  I decided that after watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when I was 10.   

2) When you were younger what superhero did you pretend/want to be and why?

My favorite superheroes were Batman and Indiana Jones.  I liked that Batman didn’t have any special powers but was a normal person who cared about saving Gotham.  I also liked Indiana Jones because of the archaeological mysteries and of course, his hat.    

3) Who do you think is the most memorable student in Upward Bound and why?

Marquez brings a unique presence to the classroom, he asks insightful questions and pulls together concepts with real world examples.  When he wants to be, he can also be a good leader.   

4) How was your first year in Upward Bound? Did you have a hard time working with the students?  

I enjoyed my first year working with the Upward Bound program.  I did not have hard time working with students.  I thought the students were hard-working, respectful and intelligent.   

5) When you were little who was the best teacher you ever had?

My 7th  grade social studies teacher Mr. Cooley.  He used to tell us stories about places in the world he had visited and how great they were.  He inspired me to travel the world and was one of the first teachers that told me I could make a living being an archaeologist.
