Instructor: Charlie Bloomfield (Communications 306)

Making documentary films is an intensive hands-on course in documentary production, which will explore all aspects of the process, from preproduction to editing. This course explores relationships between documentary theory and practice, utilizing a series of readings and documentary filmmaking exercises in a creative laboratory. Students will create short documentary sequences while they investigate both traditional and more experimental ideas from the non-fiction form. Charlie showcases many of his documentary pieces and such films as Mohawk Girls by Tracey Deer. As the accumulating project, students are in groups of 4 to create a short (3 minute) documentary of their choice.
