A Place That I'll Never Forget

As I stomp through the muddy brown trail I notice the scent of pine trees, moss, and rain flowing in the air. A deep clean whiff sends goosebumps and a new sense of awakening through every limb of my body. I realize the beauty that nature displays and possesses when it is left alone. On the western coast of Washington lies one of the few temperate rain forests hidden within the Olympic Mountains. I will never forget the first and only day that I was there.

The trail's surroundings consisted of trees that were immense in size and height; they wore chocolate colored trunks, thick and broad. The branches shaded themself with a clean coat of money green moss that hung down at a stand still. These trees towered above everything in sight except the Olympic Mountains. The mountains were covered with a clean thin sheet of rich vanilla-like-snow. I stood in the middle of the trail staring at the snow top mountains. The scenery made my eyes sparkle in its brilliance.

As the day slowly crept by, I remember the birds humming and singing in a harmonious fashion. The humming and singing made me feel like I was at a well revised opera. After a short stop to listen to these birds, I began to move, glancing at every animal that passed me. With every step I noticed the surrounding forest getting denser and denser, engulfing me within its arms. By then I knew that I was within the heart of the mystical enchanted forest. In mere moments, a sudden chill brisked my body causing the hair on my legs to spring up. The chill was followed by roaring thunder.

I stared above at the dark grayish clouds, only to see the sun peep out shooting down a warm invisible ray. However the sun was soon engulfed by incoming clouds which grew darker and thicker. At this point, a gentle sprinkle of rain turned into big rou nd drops.

Within ten minutes, I am soaked from my head to my feet. I decided to take one last glimpse at nature in full bloom. After a moment of admiration I turned around splashing my way back down the muddy brown trail. This was a time and place in my life that I will never forget.
