Upward Bound is a federally funded program that has two major goals. One is to encourage and assist students to graduate high school and another is to prepare students for college. High school students from Cleveland and Franklin can experience college life by taking various classes that are offered on the university of washington campus. The theme "Under the Sea" expresses the talents every participant has and their own vast sea of potential waiting to be explored. This summer, students in Upward Bound focused on Black Diaspora Cinema Studies thought by Tamara Cooper.
