1. UFA General meeting to be held at APS/DPP in Seattle
// ---------------------------------------------------------------------- //

The annual general meeting of the UFA will be held at the APS/DPP meeting in Seattle at 6:00 pm on Monday, Nov. 15, 1999. It will be held in the Westin/Seattle Room Cascade I.

The agenda for the meeting includes discussions of recent reviews of the fusion program and the role of universities in the restructured fusion program.

Planned speakers are:

Anne Davies, DOE/OFES - present office view of university roles in restructured program,
Short comments on new initiatives.
John Sheffield, FESAC chair - FESAC view of university role in program
Stewart Prager, member - SEAB fusion panel views
Tony Taylor, GA - short announcement of solicitation for univ involvement in DIII-D
National Facility

 

All members are urged to attend the general meeting. See you there!

(Note: the Snowmass meeting and the NRC fusion review are being discussed in separate meetings at the APS/DPP conference - see below.)

2. Snowmass meeting discussion at APS/DPP
// ---------------------------------------------------------------------- //

An open discussion of the meeting at Snowmass will be held during the APS-DPP meeting. The co-chairs and working group leaders will present a very brief overview of the meeting and provide an opportunity for discussion on Tuesday evening, November 16, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Cascade I Room.

The Proceedings of the 1999 Fusion Summer Study is complete. The Proceedings consists of over 85 MB of digital content, including the closing summary slides, the comprehensive technical reports of the working groups, contributed papers, and selected background materials.

3. FuSAC Town Meeting
// ---------------------------------------------------------------------- //

The Chairman of the National Research Council's Fusion Science Assessment Committee (FuSAC) will lead a "Town Meeting" on Thursday, November 18 between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm in Cascade II in the Westin Hotel.

The purpose of this meeting is to give members of the plasma science community an opportunity to air their views on the issues. FuSAC Chair Charles Kennel will open the meeting with a brief description of the study. His presentation will be followed by an open discussion session that will provide plenty for time interaction with the audience.
