	1. Two important meetings at APS
// ----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. The General Meeting of the UFA will be held at the APS Meeting in
Savannah, on Monday 6pm, Room Chatham C in the Convention Center.

2. There will be a Town Meeting on the FESAC Priorities Panel, in Chatham
Ballroom C, Savannah Convention Center, on Tuesday 6:30PM.

Details on both these meetings to follow.

// ----------------------------------------------------------------------
	2. Nominations for new UFA ExComm members
// ----------------------------------------------------------------------
	Every year, the general membership elects 4 new members to
the UFA executive committee to serve for 3 years. The executive
committee serves as an advisory board for the UFA president and
vice-president who typically represent the UFA in budget planning
meetings, before FESAC, DOE, gov't agencies, etc. A nominating
committee to select a slate of candidates for the upcoming annual
election of new executive committee members has been formed. The
members are: Michael Brown (chair) of Swarthmore, Darren Craig of the
University of Wisconsin, and David Hammer of Cornell. In addition,
nominations from the general membership are also solicited. Such
nominations should be made directly to Adil Hassam by letter, fax, or
e-mail, and be supported by at least five members. These will be due
to him on or before Nov. 14, 2004.
	The criteria for executive committee members are listed in
the UFA constitution on the UFA web page
http://depts.washington.edu/ufa/. The main one to keep in mind is
that all elected and serving members of the executive committee must
be from different institutions. Based on the university affiliations
of the current members of the committee, candidates from the
following institutions should NOT be nominated this year:

Caltech
Swarthmore
University of California, Irvine
University of Colorado
University of California, Berkeley
MIT
University of Wisconsin, Madison
University of Montana

Any questions regarding nominations by the general membership can be
directed to Steve Knowlton, UFA Sec'y, at knowlton@physics.auburn.edu.

	3. Coalition for Plasma Science Seeks Volunteers
// ----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Coalition for Plasma Science (CPS) is a broadly-based group of
institutions and individuals whose goal is to increase the understanding
of plasmas for non-technical audiences. CPS activities include maintaining
a highly popular plasma website, http://www.plasmacoalition.org;
developing educational literature; and organizing educational luncheon
presentations for Members of Congress and their staff. With the support of
the APS/DPP and the IEEE/PSAC, CPS is working on establishing a science
fair prize for plasma related projects. These CPS activities depend on
the voluntary labor of CPS members and associates. New participants are
strongly welcomed to help with ongoing educational activities, to help
develop new activities and to reach a larger audience. Anyone interested
in becoming active in CPS to help increase the understanding of plasmas
should contact CPS Chairman, Dr. Lee Berry of Oak Ridge National Lab, at
berryla@ornl.gov or at 865-574-0998. Dr. Berry will also be available to
meet with interested people at the APS DPP Meeting, Nov., 2004 in
Savannah, GA.
