The trees are in leaf, the birds are returning, and our staff is already lining up a full list of spring and summer courses to keep you busy this year. Discover your creative side with our botanical art classes, find the perfect espalier for your patio, and hone your plant ID skills in the Arboretum. Check out our full class list online and read on for early summer highlights. Classes fill up fast, so enroll today!
Botanical Watercolor Illustration
Expand the skills you learned in previous Botanical Drawing classes, or take this course as a stand-alone offering. Louise Smith will take you step-by-step through the basics of watercolor wash, wet-on-wet, and dry brush techniques. Eight-part series, Mondays, May 12 through July 7, 7 – 9:30 p.m. $230 course fee; pre-registration required.
Botanical Drawing - Special Projects
Students will undertake longer, more complex projects of their choice. Render botanical subjects in pencil, using line and shadow to create accurate, beautiful portraits. Use of reference photos will be covered, and students will receive a CD of reference photos of their subject. The last week of class will offer an opportunity to branch into pen and ink rendering. Students should have previous drawing experience or be willing to do some work at home. Eight-part series, Wednesdays, May 21 through July 9, 7 – 9:30 p.m. $230 course fee; pre-registration required.
To sign up or learn more, contact Jean Robins or call 206-685-2590. Register early: many of our classes fill up!
