Thomas K. Takayama, MD
Associate Professor
Departments of Urology
School of Medicine
University of Washington
Specialty / Expertise
Dr. Takayama is an expert in Urologic Cancer Surgery. He routinely performs daVinci Robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer and laparoscopic surgery including radiofrequency-ablation for kidney cancer. He has also won numerous awards to study prostate cancer (National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society grants).
Common Surgeries Performed
- Laparoscopic kidney cancer surgery including Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
- Open radical prostatectomy
- Open radical and partial nephrectomy
- Robotic-assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy
- Transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT)
- Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)
Common Diseases Treated
Training
Dr. Takayama graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and finished Urologic training at the University of Washington (UW) in 1993. He then completed UW Fellowship training in advanced urologic cancer surgery in 1995. He also received Mentored-Scientist Training from Dr. Earl W. Davie of the UW Department of Biochemistry (1995-1999). He is board certified by the American Board of Urology.
Professional Organizations
Member of the Society of Urologic Oncology (SU0), American Urological Association, Western Section of the American Urological Association, Northwest Urological Society, Seattle Surgical Society.
