Strong private support enables the Department of Urology to:
- Underwrite and enhance our teaching programs for our residents, our clinical and our research fellows.
- Invest in the best faculty; individuals who advance knowledge, give life to new ideas, serve as role models, and shape the future of medicine by training the future urologists and researchers.
- Underwrite and enhance our research programs and our laboratories.
The Department of Urology has the following funding priorities:
- Ansel-Mason Library & Resident Education Fund. This fund is currently the principal fund that supports the salary and benefits of the residents, their academic expenses, to include subscriptions and textbook purchases, information technology support, professional dues, tuition for complementing post-graduate educational coursework or degrees, and personal medical equipment.
- Teaching and Conference Fund. This fund is the principal fund to cover the travel expenses of residents, fellows or faculty, to attend conferences and training events. It covers the expense of the Visiting Professor Program, Grand Rounds, Chapter Reviews and Journal Clubs, as well as Resident Research Day.
- Urology Research Fund. This fund is intended to provide start-up support for new researchers, to bridge-fund research faculty or staff between grants or contracts, and to support research efforts where other funding opportunities are either insufficient or non-existent. It is not dedicated to any line of research, but available to any department research effort that needs limited funding assistance.
- Global Medicine Fund. This funds supports a department program which puts a Urology resident and faculty member in a Developing World site for the purpose of teaching global citizenship, training indigenous medical staff, and alleviating urologic disease in a resource-limited environment.
- Urology Discretionary Fund. This is a general purpose fund, used at the discretion of the Chair and the department leadership. It can serve a multitude of purposes, to include hosting activities, and for recognizing individual excellence and service.
