Research Projects & Funding:

ACTIVE

In Vivo Molecular Effects of Prostatic COX-2 Inhibition.

PI: Daniel W. Lin, MD
Type: NIH/NIDDK

The major goals of this project are to examine the effects of systemic COX-2 inhibition on in vivo human prostate biology with particular attention to changes in cell cycle and DNA damage.

Chemotherapy After Prostatectomy (CAP) For High Risk Prostate Carcinoma: A Phase III Randomized Study

Co- PI: R.B. Montgomery and Daniel W. Lin, MD
Type: VA Cooperative Studies Program Protocol #553 5/02/05 - 5/01/10
Agency: Department of Veteran’s Affairs

The major goal of this project is to evaluate the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy to prevent progression in patients at high risk for relapse after radical prostatectomy for clinically localized prostate cancer. The co-investigators are the national P.I.’s of the study administered through the VA Cooperative Studies Program.

Prostate Specific or Enriched Genes as Composite Biomarkers for Prostate Cancer

Co- PI: B. Lin and Daniel W. Lin, MD
Type: DAMD PC061307 12/01/06 – 11/30/09
Agency: Department of Defense

The major goal of this project is to examine multiple, novel prostate-enriched and - secreted proteins such as WDR19, NDRG1, and other current prostate cancer biomarkers to increase the sensitivity and specificity in prostate cancer early detection and stratification.

Genetic Susceptibility in Clinically Aggressive Prostate Cancer: Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer SPORE (Project 1)

Co- PI: P. Nelson and Daniel W. Lin, MD
Type: NIH/NCI 5/01/07 - 6/30/12

Project 1 will evaluate whether germline genetic polymorphisms in selected genes predict prostate cancer progression/mortality in a population-based cohort of prostate cancer patients

Active Surveillance Trial and Biorepository

PI: Daniel W. Lin, MD
Agency: Canary Foundation 10/01/07 - 09/30/08

The primary objective of this multi-institutional study is to discover and confirm biomarkers that predict aggressive disease in a prospective cohort of men on active surveillance. Dr. Lin serves as national PI of the clinical trial.
