Residency

UW Urology's Residency Program is a six year program, of which one is devoted to a research experience. There is a large number of projects and laboratories available from which to choose, including population science, oncology, pediatrics, erectile dysfunction and vascular physiology, and infection. Participation in training grants is available for those who qualify. In addition to experiencing a collegial research environment and conducting specific research projects, all residents are expected to participate in didactic courses such as statistics, clinical trial design, or molecular biology. These courses not only assist residents in their ability to evaluate journal articles critically but they also promote effectively writing and communication about their projects. It is expected that several papers worthy of publication will be generated throughout residency.

During the research year, some residents have chosen to obtain a Masters Degree in Public Health. During this year, residents are expected to spend 11 months in a concentrated research experience. During the 12th month, they are required to take one of two electives: a month's rotation with the multi-organ transplantation team at UW, or, working with Dr. George Brannen in his Global Medicine Program in Cameroon, Africa.
