International Advancement supports the vision and mission of the University of Washington by expanding philanthropic opportunities with alumni, parents and friends residing around the world.

Global Paw Prints:

  • 6,000 students on campus from other parts of the world
  • 75 International and Cultural Student Organizations
  • 13 international alumni networks hosting regional events
  • 1 nonprofit organization, FIUTS, devoted to connecting UW international students and scholars with the UW and Great Seattle communities

Below are a few useful links related to UW’s International presence:

Our team is made up of vibrant individuals who are:

  • Champions of Education
  • Collaborative
  • High-Performing
  • Respectful
  • Authentic
  • Ethical
  • Committed to excellence
  • Donor-Centered
  • Creative
  • Resourceful
  • Optimistic
  • Mindful and supportive of work life balance
We accomplish our work by:

  1. Managing portfolios using a donor centered approach and focusing on generating major gifts in areas where high capacity prospects reside
  2. Developing programs and events regionally/internationally that help to create a consistent presence and engaging opportunities for both existing and prospective donors (ranging from personal visits, staffed visits with faculty/leadership, events, websites to e-newsletters)
  3. Partnering across campus to ensure coordination and best distribution of resources
  4. Advocating for fundraising strategy across all units and departments

Holistic Perspective

Regional Advancement is part of Central Development at the UW, a component of Constituency Programs & Units. Regional Advancement staff solicit support that benefits all units and programs at UW. We pride ourselves on promoting donor-centered fundraising through transparent and collaborative communication with units, sharing information, strategy, proposal creation and stewardship.

Service to Units

The Regional Advancement team is here to partner with unit colleagues to engage alumni and friends who live in and outside Seattle. We help units connect with their alumni and friends via:

Individual Visits:  Regional Advancement team members meet with donors and prospective donors with the goal of securing major gifts. Suggestions from unit colleagues are welcome.

Travel planning:  The Regional Advancement team travels regularly, and are very familiar with special characteristics in each region — popular venues, quality hotels, traffic patterns, event timing for maximum participation.

VIP Staffing:  Regional colleagues are often available and happy to staff a UW or unit VIP who is traveling to a particular region.

Event Planning:  Regional Advancement is involved in hosting several events each year. From alumni receptions to small, targeted dinners to faculty lectures, Regional Advancement team members are available to consult and partner on programs which engage alumni and prospective donors and showcase the University.

Regional Advancement has a strong events program that collaborates with unit partners and speakers. Our work during Campaign UW included:

  • Holding events to introduce President Emmert in more than fifteen cities nationwide between 2004 and 2007.
  • Holding two or three Dawgs on Wall Street (DOWS) receptions per year held in New York City, bringing together a distinguished group of NYC alumni and prominent speakers with strong UW ties.
  • Partnering on the popular annual scholarship reception in Sun Valley.
  • Partnering with the UWAA and UW Athletics to hold both large and small events around UW away football games.
  • Planning numerous receptions and small dinners featuring UW faculty members and VIPs in a variety of venues across the country.
