UW Advancement Employment FAQ

How can I ensure that my resume makes it through the first review?  Read the job requirements closely.  Your resume must reflect that your work experience meets all the requirements of the job.

Can I tailor my resume for each opening?  No.  The resume on your UW profile should be a complete representation of your work experience.  Only one resume will be available for viewing by all hiring managers.

Should I include a cover letter with each application?  You will be asked to include a letter in the assessment portion of the application if one is required. Never work a cover letter into the body of your resume.

Can I find out the status of my application in the application process?  Yes. You can view your job status by logging into your UW Candidate Profile. For information about your job status check your My Jobs page. The most common job status statements are:

  • Applied/In Review – Candidate has applied to a position and HR is reviewing their qualifications.
  • Resume Fwd to Department – Candidate materials have been reviewed by HR and sent to the hiring manager for departmental review. Top candidates will be selected and contacted for interviews.
  • Considered Not Selected – Candidate was not hired in this position.

If I see that my resume has been forwarded to the department how long will it be before I’m told about next steps in the process?  Many variables affect the time it takes to fill a position. Not all candidates whose resumes have been forwarded to the department will advance.  If a department is interested in interviewing you, you will be contacted by phone or email. Please keep your contact information updated.
