The Mission

UW Medicine’s mission is to improve health, and our faculty and staff pursue this mission in three major ways. The first is providing excellent and compassionate care to our patients. The second is conducting leading-edge medical research. The third is providing medical students, doctoral candidates, physician assistants and other trainees with the best in medical education.

UW Medicine’s strength is in collaboration and integration; a doctor may also be a researcher; a teacher may also be a doctor. The three disciplines reinforce each other, and the result is a research, teaching and patient-care powerhouse recognized nationally and internationally for advancing medicine.

The Entities

UW Medicine consists of eight entities that work together in patient care, research and teaching. They include: Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, the UW School of Medicine and Airlift Northwest.

About UW Medicine Advancement

UW Medicine Advancement works to raise funds for our mission. Our activities include preparing proposals for individuals and organizations, engaging alumni and students, holding fundraising, stewardship and other events, working with Central Advancement on annual giving solicitations, thanking and stewarding donors, publishing an alumni-friends magazine, UW Medicine, and other activities that inform, cultivate and steward our constituents and the public. We also work closely with our partners in UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications.
