Thanks to the efforts of advocates and several dedicated legislators,
Medicaid Buy-In (also known as Ticket to Work), is alive and well, and needs
your immediate support.
****The biennium budget that was passed by the Senate includes $4.8M for the
Medicaid Buy-In!
****Also, in the House, a new Medicaid Buy-In bill has been introduced, HB
2230, which would save $500,000 this biennium through a combination of a
reduced GA-U caseload, delayed implementation until January, 2003, and
higher buy-in costs
GOOD news: Now that the concept of the Medicaid Buy-In is in both the House
and Senate budgets the chances are very good that it will end up in the
final budget that will be negotiated among the House, Senate and Governor.
ACTION STEPS:
1. Your calls are needed to thank Senator Lisa Brown and Senator Dow
Constantine and other Senate Ways and Means committee members for their hard
work and dedication to passing Medicaid Buy-In this year. (contact
information for members of this committee is below)
2. Your calls are also needed to the House Appropriations chairs, Sommers
and Sehlin, to urge them to support passage of HB 2230. (contact information
for members of this committee is below)
3. Your calls to your own legislators are needed to urge them to support
Medicaid Buy-In. The legislative hotline phone number is 1-800-562-2702
(1-800-635-9993 TTY). You don't have to know who your legislators are --
just call the number and the staff there will deliver your message to your
senator and two representatives.
MESSAGE:
Medicaid Buy-In is a key to people with disabilities returning to work.
Please support Medicaid Buy-In in the budget and in HB 2230.
