As more of us live longer, we might expect
to spend part of our life in residential care.
Some will need wheelchair assistance and
greater personal assistance.

For those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing,
what is reasonable accomodation in
residential care, especially if Medicaid/Medicare
is the funding for support services? Some
do not read or write in English or in another
primary language.

I think caregivers who believe all who are deaf
can lip read are in serious denial. Those who
believe a resident who is deaf can hear
a knock on the resident's room door
has similar denial problems.

What accomodations in skilled nursing care
and alternative options are current practices
for residents who are deaf or hard-of-hearing?

Christine
