Well I certainly would question the advisability of someone with limited
vision trying to drive and look at a GPS but would agree with Ed regarding
speech. However, all functions weren't accessible via speech. The other
thing he'll want to find out is whether he'll be expected to use GPS
supplied by the company. Virtually all taxis in Seattle are now tracked
through GPS and any system he got would have to interface with their
software. I haven't been in a cab in years where they've had a physical map.

The Washington Assistive Technology Foundation has a client who is
applying for a loan for a portable GPS System. He has some vision loss
but is able to drive. He is seeking employment as a Taxi Driver & needs
this device as an alternative to reading a (Thomas) map/guide. The GPS
device he has selected costs about $500-$600 but he has not had a chance
to try it out and the company does not have a return policy.

We are seeking recommendations for devices and places where this client
could go to actually look at and try out a GPS device - preferably with
excellent lighting and a large screen.

Thanks much.
