Announcing a new study to identify accessible user interfaces for reporting patient outcomes
Researchers at the University of Washington, Center for Outcomes Research Rehabilitation are looking for individuals with either visual, hearing, physical, or reading disabilities to help test the accessibility of an online system that is being developed to evaluate patient reported outcomes. The system, titled the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), is a form of web-based computer adaptive testing. It will be used to measure common symptoms such as pain and fatigue in individuals with chronic conditions such as multiple sclerosis, arthritis, spinal cord injury, etc. All study participants will be asked to respond to a series of questions presented to them by the system. Researchers will then ask participants to answer questions about the usability and accessibility of the system. Participants will also take a brief reading assessment. The initial session will take approximately 60-120 minutes. Participants may be invited to return for additional usability tests as the system is developed, but may end their participation at any time. The study will be implemented at the project's Northgate offices. All transportation costs for people who live within 20 miles of the project offices will be paid for by the project. In addition, participants will be compensated $100 for their involvement.
