NEW AND IMPROVED!

The biennial Region X Symposium on Rehabilitation and Deafness got a facelift! Welcome to the new and improved Northwest Symposium on Rehabilitation and Deafness, complete with a logo reflecting the great Northwest! The name may have changed, but the quality hasn’t. You will receive electrifying training and develop and renew invigorating networks with colleagues across the Northwest.

On the first day of the Symposium, conference attendees will choose one of three day-long sessions designed to help you develop a firm foundation in serving individuals who are deaf-blind, individuals who are hard of hearing, or individuals in the Deaf Native American community. Be sure to join the Conference Welcome and Reception that evening.

On Thursday and Friday, 15 break-out sessions are developed around three broad areas that continue to pose challenges for education and rehabilitation professionals: 1) traditionally underserved special populations, 2) postsecondary environments, and 3) transition into the workplace. Session topics include: serving individuals with cochlear implants, strategies to teaching English, reasonable accommodation, addiction and treatment issues, as well as sessions on serving individuals who are deaf-blind, advances in technology, and service provider ethics.

In addition to the workshop sessions, a Resource Fair of technology exhibits is featured on Thursday. Extra time between sessions will allow conference attendees to experience new technology that will assist consumers in maintaining success at school, on the job, and in the home. Thursday evening also includes a very special reunion of Western Oregon University graduates to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Rehabilitation Counselor Education program there.
