Early
Childhood Autism Services
The ECAC (early childhood autism consultants) team utilizes best practice strategies based on Applied Behavior Analysis, developmental, and structured teaching approaches, including Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, TEACCH, and Picture Exchange Communication. The Autism Center early intervention program uses a variety of empirically supported, intervention techniques designed to increase skills in language, communication, play, academic, imitation, self-help, and social/emotional. Individualized programs are developed for each child based on the child’s skills and needs and from input from families. The Center collaborates with other services providers within and outside of the UW Autism Center. Services are typically provided for children from birth to early elementary school age (seven years old) at which time families are transitioned to appropriate services either within or outside of the Center.
