School Psychologists: Identification of and Recommendations for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

About the course
This workshop is designed for school psychologists practicing in Washington State. Workshop format will include a combination of didactics, break-out groups, and problem solving using audience-generated examples.
- Review of WSASP best practices in identification of autism spectrum disorders.
- Review of test instruments and other tools used to screen and evaluate children and adolescents for autism spectrum disorders.
- Differential diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders.
- Qualification under the autism special education category without an official diagnosis.
- Review of National Research Council's recommendations for interventions for children with autism: educational implications.
- Problem-solving difficult behavior using a functional behavior analysis approach: targeting behaviors in classroom and school settings.
Speech-Language Pathology and Autism Spectrum Disorders: From Early Communicators to Adolescents

This workshop is designed for speech-language pathologists practicing in community, school, and clinical settings who wish to learn more about assessment and intervention strategies for children with autism spectrum disorders. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussion with the expert speech-language pathologists providing this workshop.
- Strategies to meet the needs of early communicators, including augmentative and assistive communication devices.
- Assessment and intervention strategies for teaching children with all levels of communicative abilities.
- Stages in communication development including pre-intentional, intentional pre-symbolic and symbolic communicators.
- Stimulability assessment for various communication modalities.
- Treatment and assessment of verbal communicators.
- Social communication: linking language to context.

This introductory- to intermediate-level training course is appropriate for occupational therapists practicing in educational and clinical settings. Topics will relate to children of all ages. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussion with the expert occupational therapists providing this workshop.
- Overview of autism spectrum disorders and challenges in sensory-motor, social, and self-regulation skills.
- Assessment and goal setting to improve children's participation in the activities of daily life.
- Behavioral intervention strategies.
- Social skills curriculum and ideas for writing IEP goals.
Therapeutic Interventions for Children and Adolescents with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders

- Material will be appropriate for use in home, community, and school settings.
- Strategies covered will include emotion regulation, coping skills, social skills, and transitions to adulthood.
Applied Behavior Analysis & Early Intervention

About the course
This workshop is designed for parents, home-based therapy assistants, and classroom professionals who wish to learn more about the definitions, goals, and methodologies of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and how it relates to early intervention. Participants will have the opportunity for in-depth discussion with the expert BCBA-certified autism consultants who are providing this workshop.
- ABA strategies to address challenging behavior and promote social interaction with peers and families.
- Designed for parents, home-based therapy assistants, and classroom professionals who wish to implement new ABA skills or enhance their current skills.

When groups (from same school district, clinic, etc.) of 6 or more register together, the 6th person is free.
Cancelation policy
If you must withdraw your workshop registration, please submit a written request within the following guidelines:
- Requests received by 6/15 will be given a full refund.
- Requests received by 6/30 will be given a 50% refund.
- Refunds for withdrawal will not be granted after 6/30.
Clock hours
Six clock hours will be available for each one-day workshop for an additional fee. Clock hours are sponsored by the Northwest Educational Service District 189.
