Free Weekend Walks
Mid-October to mid-November is prime time to see the fall color burst out in the Washington Park Arboretum. From our Japanese Maple collection in the woodland garden to a variety of deciduous trees in the collection, the colors are splendid to view. Join us every Sunday at 1pm. Learn more.

in the Miller Library
Watercolors by Linda Stewart Henley will be on exhibit in the Miller Library from November 4th through December 2nd. The paintings of Washington natives, done mostly on location, are accompanied by field notes.
Meet the artist at a free reception at the Library on Friday, November 14th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Miller Library gift show December 5 - 23
The Elisabeth C. Miller Library will have a selection of locally made arts and crafts available for purchase. Delight loved ones with nature inspired gifts such as handmade tiles, letterpress cards, and felted wool flower pins. Join us for refreshments at the opening reception and sale on Friday, December 5th from 5 to 8pm. A portion of proceeds benefits the Library. See the complete list of artists.

Arboretum Loop Trail nears construction start
At long last, the Arboretum Loop Trail (ALT) appears to be just a few months away from the start of construction. The ALT is expected to have several benefits for the Arboretum including getting people into areas that are currently impassable because of soggy conditions. Fiddleheads Family Nature Class is serious fun
Preschoolers and their caregivers experience the UW Botanic Gardens using their senses with science-based exploration and outdoor play. Recent class themes include Silly Squirrels and Mushroom Mania. Starting in January we will have a Wednesday afternoon section specifically geared toward older preschoolers, with faster pacing and a slightly different teaching style. Program details

Glimpse of the past - a very low tide on Foster Island

For many years, Lake Washington and correspondingly, Union Bay, had quite variable water levels throughout the year. Today the Army Corps tries to maintain a steady level, although it is difficult to predict both rainfall and rate of snow melt. The photograph taken on September 12, 1958, shows an extremely low water level on the north end of Foster Island. Read the rest of the glimpse.
