The 2013 Wott Fellowship Winner is Chris Watson
Christopher Watson has been selected by the UW Botanic Gardens faculty for the 2013
Wott Fellowship Award. Using his staff exemption to take classes, he
has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while working full-time. He will be
using GIS tools to study the hydrology of the Arboretum and a 1 km
buffer around the Arboretum, to determine how water is moving in and out
of the Arboretum. The Wott Fellowship is awarded annually to a student
conducting ongoing research in the Washington Park Arboretum. In the
photo, Chris is harnessed for his job as Arborist/Lead Gardener while in

hidden location in the Arboretum (still located there today!). They actually
started with 6 hives, which they purchased for $10.00 each from a beekeeper’s
widow. Brian was delighted to have bees in order to make sure the many
bee-pollinated plants in the Arboretum would bear fruit/seeds. Read more.
