Yes, indeed we do know that Buddleja davidii and it’s cultivars are invasive. If you open up the July Colour pdf, you’ll note that I am NOT promoting the asforunmentionable, but offer as an alternative the assumed sterile hybrid Buddleja ‘Lochinch’.

We removed all B.d. cvs from our plant collections several years ago when it was initially listed as invasive. Apparently, at the time, ‘Lochinch’ was OK to remain. We may now need to rethink this, as ‘Lochinch’ has been proven to not be truly sterile.

Sarah Reichard, our leading UWBG authority on invasive plants has asked that we dicuss this in our next curation committee meeting.

Butterfly bush is a nasty, evil plant that spreads wildly and starves butterfly larve and I truely hope that you get rid of it ASAP.
