David Basiji is Graduation Speaker
UW BioE alumnus David A. Basiji, PhD, of EMD Millipore, will deliver the Department of Bioengineering’s Graduation Celebration Speech Friday, June 14, 2013.
Basiji, a senior director at EMD Millipore, was previously co-founder and chief executive officer of Amnis Corporation, which was acquired by EMD Millipore in 2011. As a co-inventor of the ImageStream system and other key Amnis technologies, Basiji has played an integral role in all phases of corporate development since Amnis began operations in 1999. In addition to providing technical leadership, Basiji has guided the marketing and sales operations and negotiated the investment of $40 million in financing for the company.
Basiji earned his PhD in bioengineering from the University of Washington, where he developed an ultra-sensitive DNA and protein analysis platform for the Human Genome Project, a technology that was later commercially licensed to Oxford GlycoSciences. Basiji also received his master’s degree in bioengineering from UW and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley. He currently holds 37 U.S. patents.
