Graduate Commons

University of Washington Bothell Graduate Commons

The primary purpose of the Graduate Commons is to support graduate education at UW Bothell by
providing a comfortable drop-in space for relaxation, study, and collaboration. The Graduate Commons
is designed as a hub for graduate student life, enhancing academic, research, and social interactions.

Agreement

As graduate students you are entrusted with the responsibility of using the Graduate Commons in a way
that supports its primary purpose. Please do what you can to adhere to the guidelines and work in a way
that is respectful to others. By entering the Graduate Commons, you acknowledge that you have read
and understood this document.

Guidelines

  1. The Graduate Commons is on the first floor of the Truly House, located at 18140 110th Ave NE (i.e. the “back road” of campus). There is a trail leading to the house from the North entrance to UW2.
  2. The Graduate Commons includes:
    • The large common area containing comfortable seating, lamps, tables, chairs, a fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker. The seating capacity of this space is 26 people.
    • The small conference room containing work tables and chairs, and two computer stations. This room accommodates 6 – 8 chairs around the small conference table.
    • A restroom
  3.  The primary purpose of the space is to support graduate education at UWB, so the primary users of the space should be UW Bothell graduate students.
  4.  Graduate Commons hours: Monday through Friday 3pm – 9am (the following day), and weekends open 24 hours.
  5. An academic unit is currently using the offices upstairs and the downstairs kitchen. These spaces are not part of the Graduate Commons. The unit’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9 am – 5 pm. If you come in to use the Commons between 3 – 5 pm, please keep the noise to a minimum; the house is not insulated for sound.
  6. Please leave the space in good condition when you leave.
  7.  If you bring food, you may use the cart, small fridge, coffee maker, and microwave located in the common area.
  8.  If you are the last to leave, close and lock windows, turn off lights, and make sure the doors are closed.
  9. Please do not attempt to build a fire in the fireplace as the fireplace is not functional
  10.  If you need to temporarily attach posters to walls, doors, or windows (i.e. for collaborative projects), please only use blue masking tape, and remove your work before you leave the space.
  11. In order to grant access to the Graduate Commons, graduate program advisors/managers will send names and Student ID numbers of currently enrolled UW Bothell graduate students to Public Safety, who will activate students’ Husky Cards.
  12.  To enter the Graduate Commons, swipe your Husky Card outside of the main door. Each Husky Card entry is logged by Public Safety.
