Wired magazine profiled UW Computer Science and Engineering Professor Shwetak Patel, focusing on the research that led him to develop his startup Zensi, now a part of Belkin, for their July cover story. The story explores current applications of feedback loops – a process that Wired summarizes as providing “people with information about their actions in real time, then giving them a chance to change those actions, pushing them toward better behaviors.”

The potential of Patel’s research was also recently recognized by Microsoft Research when he was selected as a 2011 Microsoft Research Faculty Fellow. Microsoft Research Faculty Fellows explore breakthrough, high-impact research that has the potential to help solve some of today’s most challenging societal problems. Microsoft Research annually selects seven of the top early-career professors in the field of computer science and provides them each with a cash award.
