About the Programs in American Indian and Alaska Native Health

For more than a decade, researchers at the CCER have been involved in studies of American Indian and Alaska Native issues, including health, exercise, and assessment of availability and use of medical care. Many of our projects are collaborative efforts with the University of Colorado's American Indian and Alaska Natives Program, directed by Dr. Spero Manson. Along with the University of Colorado program, our goal is to improve the health and well-being of American Indians and Alaska Natives of all ages. Our programs focus on research, training, continuing education, technical assistance, and dissemination of information in a way that recognizes the unique cultural contexts of American Indians and Alaska Natives. One of our most recent efforts is Native People for Cancer Control, which includes cancer education, training, outreach, and research focused on reducing health disparities among American Indians and Alaska Natives. Additionally, many of our projects are developed in collaboration with the Seattle Indian Health Board.
