Testing as a Genre Study: The role of the coach in supporting teachers in preparing students for testing in mathematics, reading, and writing
There are three goals for this session. First, we will build our own knowledge of the reading, writing, and test taking skills students need in order to be successful on the WASL. Second, we will participate in testing-as-a-genre-study lessons that coaches can demonstrate in classrooms. Third, we will discuss a variety of possible professional development sessions that coaches can use with their teachers.

Side-by-side coaching ? How to work alongside teachers in their classrooms
By this point in the school year, coaches have worked with teachers in a variety of settings to build trust, content knowledge, and pedagogical knowledge. It is crucial to develop the skills necessary to support teachers in their classrooms as they increase their pedagogical repertoire. Coaches should come to this session with information about the students and teachers with whom they work (to be kept confidential). We will use this information to make decisions about how to structure coaching cycles, determine a leverage point or focus for the coaching work, and how to gradually release responsibility to the teacher. Scheduling and other nuts and bolts will also be addressed.

Creating a coaching and professional development plan for the upcoming school year based on experiences this year
What did you accomplish as a coach this year? What worked? What needs further revision? We will use our coaching experiences from this year and our knowledge of our teachers' and students' strengths and areas of need to create coaching and professional development plans for the upcoming school year (and summer, if applicable). Participants are encouraged to bring artifacts such as professional development agendas, photos of classrooms, teacher reflection sheets, schedules, etc. to share with others so that we can learn from each other's experiences. The primary goal of this session is for participants to leave feeling confident about and prepared for future coaching work.
Cost: $595 per person for all three sessions
Sessions will run from 8:30am-4pm, with a one-hour break for lunch.
All sessions will be held in Seattle, WA (venue TBD).
Clock hours will be available, free of charge.
