District Leaders Seminar Series
Program Design
The District Leaders Seminar Series is designed to serve 40 practicing district
leaders in a small setting where active dialogue, debate and conversation can
take place to ensure a deep treatment of critical issues and questions. The
program structure includes six monthly interactive seminars meeting for approximately
three-four hours, from October 2008 to April 2009. Each seminar is structured
so that a nationally recognized school district practitioner or scholar has
an opportunity to present his/her leadership work — specifically those
policies, practices, structures and specific leadership strategies that are
resulting in closing the achievement gap at a district-wide level. The presentation
is intended to be a candid portrayal of those leadership strategies that appear
to be most effective in mobilizing action to close the gap, along with specific
challenges and impediments that continue to make the elimination of the gap
such an elusive goal. Selected readings prior to and between seminars will serve
to deepen and connect the conversations for each seminar. These seminars will
meet on the University of Washington campus. A light dinner will be served.
Clock hours will be available for this program.
