WSSDA/CEL School Board Workshop
January 30-31, 2009 New Dates!
We've received an enthusiastic response regarding this workshop, but heard from many of you that the scheduled date in early August was not ideal. To honor your interest, we have rescheduled the workshop to January 30th and 31st, 2009. Join our conversation about creating schools and districts that lead with an agenda for equity!
Leading for Equity:
The role of school directors in improving student learning
School directors play a pivotal role in leading an agenda for student achievement centering on equity and instructional improvement. During this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the current achievement gap and the conditions that need to exist for all students to be successful.

Who should attend?
This two-day workshop is designed specifically for school board members to work in partnership with their superintendent.

What will we learn?

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from nationally-renowned educators and school board members who have successfully established agendas and policies that focus on supporting student learning. They will engage in an in-depth exploration of closing the achievement gap from the governance level of a school district. They will also understand the framework of the “will” it takes to lead with an agenda of equity and instructional improvement.
■ Social Will (by John Morefield): The belief that every child can and will learn with appropriate school board leadership.
■ Cultural Will (by Dr. Doris McEwen): The willingness to gain a comprehensive understanding of the population of students with whom we work.
■ Organizational Will (by Dr. Stephen Fink): The institutional initiative to align district infrastructures in ensuring every child is successful.
■ Political Will (by Dr. Thelma Jackson): The courage it takes to lead a school district from the governance level in working with local constituents and communities. |
