This program has been canceled for the 2007-2008 school year.

This program is offered as a continuation program for participants from the 2005-06 School Leadership Programs I & II, and is based on the interest expressed by a number of alumni to continue their collective work. As a central part of SLP II, participants developed and carried out an inquiry project focused on identifying and closing learning "gaps" in their schools. The work is designed to build on the inquiry projects begun in 2005-06, and deepen participants' commitments and capacities to sustain the pursuit of powerful, equitable learning for all students. More specifically, this second year program will involve a much more pointed focus on enriching the skills and knowledge necessary for leaders to work with teachers to improve instruction. In building a follow on program, we aim to "keep the flame alive," rekindling the leadership spirit and desire necessary to do this difficult work, and continue to build the connections and relationships among the leaders who took part in SLP I & II.

Objectives

  1. Participants will continue work to close identified gaps between the vision of equity and excellence for all students and the realities they face within their current school and school district context.
  2. Participants will build upon their inquiry work from SLP I & II, using the critical inquiry process to evaluate, reframe, and plan anew, with an even greater emphasis on instructional improvement.
  3. Participants will grow their abilities to see and develop outstanding instructional practice, both in terms of content and pedagogical knowledge.
  4. Participants, through continued deep reflection and peer support, examine and will adjust their instructional and organizational leadership strategies.
  5. Participants, through the program structure and support, will continue to embrace the leadership challenges they face in their schools and school systems with a renewed passion, energy and commitment.
