Doris Sommer

Doris Sommer is Ira Jewell Williams Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures and African and African American Studies at Harvard University. She has authored many books, including Bilingual Aesthetics: A New Sentimental Education (2004) and Proceed with Caution, When Engaged by Minority Writing in the Americas (1999), and is editor of Cultural Agency in the Americas (2005) and Bilingual Games: Some Literary Investigations (2004). Interested in exploring the ways in which the arts intersect with social change, she also serves as Director of Cultural Agents, an organization at Harvard that promotes the arts and humanities as social resources and fosters creativity and scholarship that contribute to the education and development of communities worldwide.
