Chelsea Schlievert

Chelsea SchlievertCommunications and External Affairs Specialist Chelsea Schlievert’s academic background comprises interdisciplinary, project-based research, focused at the intersections of visual art, literature, gender, and social activism. She received her master’s degree in American Studies and graduate certificate in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies from the University of Kansas in 2004.  Her articles have appeared in Women’s Studies, Journal of Cultural Research in Art Education, and Journal of the History of Collections.

Chelsea has extensive experience in the museum sector. At the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City she served as Coordinator of the Photography curatorial department and assisted with exhibition coordination, catalogue research, educational programming, and donor relations. At the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, she oversaw, developed, and publicized a range of programs for adult audiences. Prior to joining the Simpson Center, Chelsea was responsible for membership-related communications and events at Seattle’s Pacific Science Center.
