| 10:00 AM | **HUMANITIES FORUM** "Emerging Views on 911: A Philosophical Forum," a series of open-ended, seminar-style discussions into the fact, the effect, and the aftermath of September 11. The four forums, built around readings from philosophical and literary works, will explore different levels of ethical reflection and response to this unprecedented event. Sponsored by the Washington Commission for the Humanities and the Simpson Center for the Humanities, the forums will be led by Liz Lyell who has taught philosophy for two decades and is presently teaching in the WCH Clemente Course for the Humanities, and Lyall Bush, Program Director at Washington Commission for the Humanities and Director of the Clemente Course in the Humanities. The forum will meet from 10:00-1:00 on September 7, 14, 21, and 28. Space is limited. Participants must agree to attend all four sessions. | 7:00 PM | Book Launch The Seattle Arts Commission celebrates the publication of "Sento at Sixth and Main," by Gail Dubrow and Donna Graves, with a reception and book signing at the historic Panama Hotel Tea and Coffee House. The tea house staff will give tours of the historic bathhouse, or "sento," located in the basement of the Hotel. A presentation by the authors will take place at 7:30. Sponsored by the Seattle Arts Comission. 7-9 pm, Panama Hotel Tea and Coffee House, 607 South Main Street, Seattle (International District). Free, donations for tours gladly accepted. |
