Critical Design
Year of Funding:
2012/2013
Critical Design is a generative space for cross-disciplinary exploration of critical social theory and place-making design. We engage UW community members in the humanities, social sciences, and built environments schools in both the thinking and doing of place-making and center social equity and power relations in our approach.
Our activities include guided reading and discussions on key writings in spatial justice theory; retrospective critiques of design studios and theses projects by an interdisciplinary group of students and professors; and guest speakers by social justice and design activists who are applying spatial justice theory in the real world.
