Moving Image Research Group

Year of Funding:
2011/2012

Affiliated with the Moving Images Research Group (MIRG), this graduate interest group (MIRG-GIG) provides a platform for students to discuss both images and their various visual representations, as well as methods and models for approaching images in their research.

Our primary purpose is to explore the aesthetics, theory and history of moving images, thereby fostering an intellectual and social community for graduate students to present and receive feedback on their works-in-progress.

MIRG-GIG organizes screenings, discussions, and readings, partly focusing on the MIRG guest speakers. The group also plans to build and maintain an interactive website to communicate with participants and promote campus-wide events concerning cinema and other related media.

Fall 2011 Screenings:

  • Oct 25, 7pm –  D.W. Griffith' Intolerance (NWFF film screening)
  • Nov 16, 7pm – First Light: The Birth of Cinema (NWFF film screening)
