Jordanna Bailkin (History)

This speaker series will bring to campus both junior and senior scholars who are engaged with understanding the historical relationship between the social sciences and state power. In particular, the speakers will be asked to address the ways in which the disciplines of anthropology, economics, political science, psychology, and sociology have been entrenched in different local and global contexts, with widely varying degrees of collusion with and resistance to state authorities. They will also be invited to consider the ways in which the historical emergence of these disciplines continue to shape structures of knowledge within and outside the university today.
