The Treehouse Presents:

Meladel Mistica, U Melbourne

`Voice marking' is a phenomenon seen in some western Austronesian
languages, such as Tagalog and Indonesian. I will define what is meant
by this term and discuss the preliminary survey of the types of voice
marking systems found in these languages. This initial investigation
into voice marking shows that it does not merely signal syntactic
functions, but also seems to have additional discourse functions.

I give a brief overview of the implementation of voice in IndoGram
(Indonesian ParGram), and talk about possible implementation of voice
that has implications beyond the single sentence.
