Forms and Account Policies for the Computational Lingustics servers
Background
This page lays out the policies pertaining to user
accounts and software installation on the Computational Linguistics computing cluster and links
to the forms that are used to carry out the policies.
User accounts
All new users should
submit an account request online. A UW NetID is required. Users must read and agree to abide by the
server usage policy.
Student accounts will be active if the student is
currently enrolled in a course using Computational Linguistics resources
or if the student has contacted the lab director to request an extension.
Student accounts that are not extended are suspended
at the end of the quarter (for non-Lingustics students) or after the expected graduation date (for Linguistics students. ) Users whose accounts are about to be suspended will be notified by email, if possible, so they can request an extension or remove any data they want to keep.
Backups of User Files
Our servers are backed up nightly; however, users are encouraged to keep their own local backups of critical files.
Information for faculty regarding student accounts
Faculty are no longer required to submit class lists, unless there is software specific to the class that must limited to those users due to license restrictions. In that case, the tab-delimited class list file from MyUW should be submitted to
linghelp@u by one week before the start of instruction.
Faculty should notify
linghelp@u about any students that drop their course and are no longer enrolled in any Linguistics courses, so their accounts can be disabled.

Information for faculty regarding software installation
Software requests should be made 2 months prior to the start of
the quarter they are needed in. The
Software Request form
elicits the information necessary to install the software, test to see
that it runs, ensure that it is used according to its license,
and record the details of the installation so that the software
can be reinstalled with minimal delay should the system need to
be rebuilt. If necessary the system administrator can assist with coming up with an installation procedure, but this may delay the installation of the software.
This form is no longer required, but submitting it may speed up the installation of your software. If you do not wish to submit a form, you may email requests to
linghelp@u. Requests still should be made 2 months before the start of the quarter.
Note that the last portion of the form (list of authorized users)
only needs to be filled out if the license agreement for the software
requires that we maintain a list of authorized users.
Be sure to test any previously installed
software you are counting on using by the software request deadline,
in case it needs updating as well.
