Pilot and Feasibility Awards

Funds are made available for 2 Pilot and Feasibility (P/F) grants, providing funding up to $35,600 annually for a maximum of 2 years.

Eligibility criteria:

P/F Awards are specifically designed to provide support for junior investigators to enable them to obtain sufficient pilot data to be competitive for receipt of peer-reviewed funding.  They also are used to attract established investigators in other fields into the area of nutrition research.  In this case, the established investigator has to provide considerable evidence that the proposed research is a major departure from his/her usual line of research, and that it is likely to lead to an ongoing interest in nutrition.  The P/F program also will, on occasion, fund research that is somewhat speculative, but in which a potentially important idea can receive funding for testing.  Eligibility is confined to faculty members within any school, department or division at the University of Washington.  The proposed research has to have nutrition relevance.

Procedure for applying for a P/F Award:

Once a year applications for P/F Awards will be solicited from eligible individuals. An initial letter of intent will be requested for review.  If approved, a full application is invited (NIH PHS398).

New Investigator Awards

Funds are available to support a CNRU New Investigator.  Support available is for the salary of the candidate to a maximum of $55,000 (plus fringe benefits), and $35,600 in Pilot and Feasibility funds.  This award is usually limited to 24 months.  Normally, the individual selected will be a junior person who meets the Pilot and Feasibility eligibility criterion.  Individuals are eligible only once for this support.  These awards are made through the same process as the Pilot and Feasibility awards.  Announcements are made as the award becomes available.
