Abstract

New indoline dyes DN319 and DN350 have been prepared. DN319 showed higher conversion efficiency than D149, which is one of well-known highly efficient organic sensitizers, due to improved short-circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) in zinc oxide dye-sensitized solar cell. This result can come from the electron-withdrawing dicyanovinylidene moiety into the terminal rhodanine ring to show more bathochromic absorption band. DN350 having both the dicyanovinylidene and 2-fluorenyl moieties could show better performance than DN319 due to the prevention of H-aggregates formation.
