Abstract

Thermally-activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) compounds have attracted much attention since they are expected to demonstrate high emission efficiency. In general, these compounds possess both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents to achieve well-separated HOMO and LUMO. Here, we report the synthesis of donor-acceptor-type compounds with carbazole-fused aza[7]helicenes as an electron donor. Theoretical calculation showed that HOMOs of the designed compounds are distributed over the aza[7]helicene moieties, while LUMOs are located on the electron-withdrawing substituents. Absorption and emission properties were revealed by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. In addition, their chiroptical properties derived from the helicene moiety were evaluated through circular dichroism.
